Graduation and Commencement

Graduation

Graduation is the act of receiving or conferring of an academic degree or diploma after all requirements are completed successfully. Commencment is the ceremony you may attend if you are eligible for the semester you have applied for graduation.

Students should apply for graduation on or before October 31 if they anticipate completing in a fall semester and apply on or before March 31, if they anticipate completing in a summer or spring semester.

To be included in commencement books, potential graduate lists, participate in graduation honor awards, and attend the ceremony (virtual or face to face), students must apply by due dates each semester.

Students may attend the commencement ceremony of the semester they apply for if deemed eligible only. If the deadline date is missed, students may still apply for graduation, be completed (if requirements met), and receive their degree but will not be able to attend a commencement ceremony in the following semesters. Therefore it is important to apply by the deadline date of the appropriate semester.

Information about Graduation Follow-up Survey

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) surveys graduates six months after they complete a certificate, technical diploma or associate degree program. Filling out the survey will only take a few minutes and the responses are strictly confidential. Your responses to the Graduate Follow-up Survey will help MATC and our future students.

MATC uses the responses from the survey:

  • for career awareness, helping both future and current students
  • for planning efforts for those making or assisting with career decisions
  • for certificate, technical diploma and associate degree program planning, development and evaluation
  • to determine funding from the state of Wisconsin

A statewide report is used by a variety of educational professionals, especially high school guidance counselors, in their efforts to provide students with information to make sound career decisions.

Please update your non-MATC email and phone number so that we can keep in touch with you. This can be done easily online by clicking MATC Self Service.
