Privacy and Appropriate Use

Using the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Network requires your compliance with all applicable MATC Policies and Procedures.

Authorized individuals, organizations and businesses are free to use the MATC Network in relation to MATC activities, assignments or responsibilities for lawful, worthy and ethical purposes, except as limited by the Policies and Procedures.

As a User, you must abide by MATC Policies and Procedures, as amended or supplemented from time to time, including, but not limited to:  E0202, Policy Statement Governing Technology Use; C0201, Harassment; C0700, District Employee Code of Ethics; EE0202, Technology Usage Procedure and MATC Student Code of Conduct, all of which can be accessed online at - Administrative Office/General Counsel.  Violation of these Policies and Procedures can result in immediate loss of network privileges and subject users to disciplinary action.

Use of the Network is subject to certain limitations on liability and disclaimers as stated in Section 2 of EE0202.  By using the Network you agree to all the terms and conditions of the Policies and Procedures, as amended or supplemented from time to time.  If you have any questions or desire more information before proceeding, please call the Helpdesk at 414-297-6541.

Legal Disclaimer for Accessing Student Records and Grades Online

Each User (i.e. staff member, student, faculty member) is advised that access to students records and grades is governed by federal law. The Family Educational Reporting and Privacy Act requires written consent by the student before his or her records can be released to anyone else (including the User) unless there is a clear statutory exemption for release of that record or the requester has a need to know. Such questions in this regard can be addressed to the User's supervisor or to the Registrar.

The User is prohibited from reading, browsing, modifying, or deleting records from another's data or program without proper authority. Public access to computer screens must be avoided.

Access Codes, passwords, and Personal Identification Numbers must be kept confidential. Users are expected to use appropriate safety measures in regard to record access. Inappropriate use includes, but is not limited to showing a password to another person, displaying the password in public view, and installing a password as a macro function.

Users are subject to disciplinary action and/or civil sanctions for violating records privacy.
