GED/HSED CEREMONY – December 18, 2023
On Monday, December 18, 2023, Milwaukee Area Technical College hosted the Winter 2023 GED/HSED Commencement in Cooley Auditorium at the college’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus. More than 300 students were honored for earning General Educational Development (GED) certificates and High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED). The ceremony recognized students who graduated from MATC and the college’s community-based educational partners: Literacy Services of Wisconsin, Social Development Commission, UMOS Inc. and YWCA Southeast Wisconsin. The student speakers were Adrian Jones Sr. and Shaquita Riser. Jones was driven to pursue his HSED at Literacy Services of Wisconsin after watching his son graduate high school the previous spring. Riser encouraged the graduates to fight for their dreams, passions and for the life they want. Other speakers included MATC President Vicki J. Martin, Ph.D., and radio talk show host Kenneth Harris, who delivered the keynote address.
