During Gallery Night MKE, Milwaukee Area Technical College is presenting the second round of the community art collection installed on the Downtown Milwaukee Campus. MATC students, alumni and a faculty member are among the 12 artists whose works are displayed. In addition, Dasha Kelly Hamilton, MATC social justice chair and the poet laureate for the state of Wisconsin, will discuss “The SoapBox Project.” The college’s unveiling event begins at 6 p.m. Friday, October 21, in the Main Building, 1015 N. Sixth Street, first floor, Room M175. The art displays are installed on the second floor of the C, M and T buildings and can be viewed during Gallery Night MKE, Friday October 21, 5-9 p.m., and Saturday, October 22, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. The 12 artists are: current MATC students Miguel Camacho, Tayla Hart, Mi Salgado and Laila Scott; MATC photography instructor John Glembin; Samantha Hanneman; John Kowalczyk; Madeline Martin; Byada Meredith; Adjuaa Nsoroma; Geo Rutherford; Maggie Sasso. The campus has undergone many renovations, and the artwork decorates new spaces and celebrates the college’s history and diversity.
