Gingerbread contest

Milwaukee Area Technical College students from the Baking and Pastry Arts associate degree program showcase their decorating skills and holiday spirit at the annual MATC Parade of Gingerbread Houses currently on display at the Milwaukee Public Market, 400 North Water Street in Milwaukee.

The public is invited to view, vote on and even purchase eight gingerbread houses currently displayed on the market’s second floor. In addition to displaying their talents, the students are vying for bragging rights to first, second and third place awards from Wisconsin Baking Association judges — and the People’s Choice Award, which is decided by public votes.

2022 People’s Choice winner Elizabeth Cueto Coronado is defending her crown with a new entry. There are eight other student contestants whose designs include a house of cards, a hotel, a castle, a Christmas tree lane and more. The public is encouraged to visit the Milwaukee Public Market to vote (and bid) through Friday, December 8. Winners will be selected and announced at a ceremony open to the public Tuesday, December 12, at the market.

In addition, the houses are available for purchase via an auction process. Proceeds from each house will be used to offer scholarships to students in baking programs through the MATC Foundation Inc., the college’s philanthropic partner in supporting student success.
