Milwaukee Area Technical College President Dr. Vicki J. Martin was named to the Milwaukee Business Journal’s “19 Milwaukee-Area Executives to Watch in 2019” list in the Jan. 4, 2019, print edition of the newspaper. According to the publication, the executives were chosen as a “direct reflection of the dominant news they were part of in 2018” and “at the forefront of major initiatives in 2019."

MATC District Board Member Ashanti Hamilton, president of the Milwaukee Common Council, also was named to the list.

Dr. Martin’s Milwaukee Business Journal listing was accompanied by the following text:

“Vicki Martin has a key role in addressing the skills gap in southeastern Wisconsin. She took over as president of Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2014. As Foxconn Technology Group develops a manufacturing campus expected to create 13,000 jobs in Racine County, Martin and her fellow higher education leaders in the region are working to create a talent pipeline for Foxconn and numerous other employers.

“Next year will mark the first full year of one of Martin’s latest initiatives to that end. She announced in 2018 that MATC would launch a free tuition program to help eligible adults in the area complete an associate’s degree. The program builds on the MATC Promise, which launched in 2015 to help qualifying high school graduates in a similar manner. Martin has said the program aims to connect people with careers for which employers have a heavy demand for qualified workers. It is also one effort to help achieve 60 percent postsecondary credential attainment across Wisconsin by 2027.”
