Life is busy. Being able to order my groceries and not have to make time to go to the store helps a lot. Being able to pick them up after my classes and take them home helps even more.
BreAnna Jones has always been super smart.
She took a boatload of honors classes and college-level courses at her Arkansas high school before heading to Milwaukee Area Technical College this summer. She plans to get an associate degree, transfer to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and become an elementary school science teacher.
In July, she started working at MATC’s drop-in child care center, Little Stormers Village. When the fall semester begins, she’ll have a full load of classes. She expects to be on campus at least eight hours almost every weekday.
So she made a smart move by ordering her groceries online once a week and having them delivered to MATC’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus, where she can pick them up when she’s ready.
“Life is busy,” Jones said. “Being able to order my groceries and not have to make time to go to the store helps a lot. Being able to pick them up after my classes and take them home helps even more. It just makes life a great deal easier.”
This summer MATC became one of the first colleges in the region to receive Kroger Delivery on campus free (with coupon code). With Kroger Delivery proudly serving Pick ‘n Save and Metro Market, grocery orders arrive in the refrigerated blue delivery vehicle, and are available for pickup anytime within the three-hour delivery window.
In the Milwaukee area, Kroger operates Pick ‘n Save and Metro Market stores as part of its family under a variety of banner names.
“Our organizations have a shared belief that fresh food should be available and accessible to everyone,” said Emilie Williamson, Corporate Affairs Manager for Pick ‘n Save and Metro Market. “In collaboration with MATC we can expand food access, meeting students where they are – on campus.”
Kroger delivered grocery orders on Tuesday, Aug. 6, as MATC President Dr. Anthony Cruz, Laura Bray, vice president of college advancement and executive director of the MATC Foundation Inc., and Michael Marx, president of the Roundy’s Division, looked on.
“The service we can provide is one of a kind, where each personalized order is selected in our fulfillment center and delivered by our friendly associates,” Marx said. “We look forward to seeing the students benefit from this innovative collaboration.”

“This service is ideal for students who don’t live near a grocery store, who have children — which can make going to get groceries a challenge — and neurodivergent students who can find stores daunting,” Cappaert said.
For about a year, Kroger has provided students with gift cards as part of the Ellen and Joe Checota MATC Scholarship Program, one of the assistance opportunities available through the MATC Foundation, Inc., the college's philanthropic partner that raises funding to provide student scholarships, emergency resources and other types of support that remove barriers to students’ success and encourages their role in strengthening the region’s economic vitality.
Students who receive the Checota full-ride scholarship get monthly allocations to buy groceries, Cappaert said. Through that relationship, Kroger asked MATC administrators about on-campus delivery, Cappaert said.
The process is simple:
- Order groceries online at picknsave.com or through the Pick ‘n Save app before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Orders must be a minimum of $35. Credit cards, gift cards and SNAP EBT are accepted as payment. (Campus cash not accepted).
- Enter a promotional code available in MATC’s The Week Ahead e-newsletter. Using the code means free delivery for on-campus pickup.
- Pick up groceries between 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in front of the H Building, 700 West Highland Avenue. Look for the blue refrigerated delivery truck.
Delivery vehicles have a refrigerated area where frozen foods are stored with dry ice, said Frank Rosiak, a transportation manager for Kroger. “Chilled and frozen items will stay cold as long as needed,” he said.
The convenient delivery service is just another reason why Jones believes she made the right decision when she chose MATC. “I think the college fits my personality,” she said. “It’s so easy to network with people here, and it’s so easy to find things. There are an amazing amount of resources on campus.”
