$7.5 MILLION GOAL REACHED THROUGH 2-TO-1 MATCHING CHALLENGE

  • The MATC Foundation is excited to share that we have reached the $7.5 million goal for the Checota MATC Scholarship Program. Ellen and Joe Checota generously provided a $2-to-$1 matching gift of $5 million to create this $7.5 million fund. For each $500,000 donated, the Checotas contributed $1 million.
  • As of December 31, 2023, nearly 270 individuals, foundations and corporations contributed to meeting, and exceeding, MATC Foundation’s fundraising goal six months earlier than planned.
  • Though the match campaign has successfully ended, gifts are still welcome and go directly to support this innovative and effective full-ride scholarship.

BUILDING THE TALENT PIPELINE

This new scholarship program is the most comprehensive scholarship at MATC, designed as a last-dollar scholarship to cover the gap between a student’'s financial aid grants and the cost of tuition, books, supplies, equipment, meals, transportation, child care, and more for eligible students. (The large majority of MATC scholarships cover only tuition costs.)

IN The FIRST TWO YEARS, 1,090 MATC STUDENTS RECEIVED CHECOTA SCHOLARSHIPS - 268 HAVE GRADUATED WITH TECHNICAL DIPLOMAS OR CERTIFICATES

  • 89% of Checota scholars identify as people of color and the average age is 28.
  • Checota scholar retention rate for Fall 2023 new scholars was 75%, as compared to a 60% average retention rate for all part-time MATC students. For scholars in the first three cohorts, their average course completion rate was 85% (average of their peers was 77%).
  • Checota scholars stand to earn 80% more in wages within six months after graduation than before they entered MATC. Upon entering the program, 77% of Checota scholars reported current incomes below $27,000. The average income of MATC’s technical diploma graduates within six months is $49,175.
