Physical Therapist Assistant

Work with physical therapy patients in a hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation center, school, private clinic or other healthcare setting. Under the supervision of a physical therapist, duties include implementing treatment programs according to the plan of care, teaching patients to perform exercises and daily living activities, conducting treatments using special equipment, and reporting the patient’s progress. 

Career Outlook: The need for physical therapist assistants is projected to grow due to increases in the geriatric population. 

Career Pathway: This program features exploratory courses that count toward a credential. Work continues to develop the program into a fully embedded Career Pathway.

A criterion considered in the petition process is verification of student residency. Students selected via the petition process are chosen based on MATC district residency, then Wisconsin nondistrict residency, followed by nonresidents, unless otherwise stated. 

Special Admission Requirements: One year of high school-level algebra, biology and chemistry or physics.
