Approximately 235 students were honored for earning General Educational Development (GED) diplomas or High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED) Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus.The ceremony recognized students graduating from Milwaukee Area Technical College and seven community-based educational partners.
Speakers included State Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa of Milwaukee, who was the first Latina elected to state office in Wisconsin; Dr. Vicki J. Martin, MATC president; Dr. Mohammad Dakwar, MATC provost; Dr. Regina O. Smith, MATC dean of the School of Pre-College Education; and Gabriel Byrd, a graduate representing Silver Spring Neighborhood Center. Dr. Martin officially conferred the degrees. Graduate Dajah Vance, representing Literacy Services of Wisconsin, made announcements.
