High School Students to Visit MATC's Oak Creek Campus Oct. 12 to Explore Manufacturing and Health Care Careers

Milwaukee Area Technical College, the South Suburban Chamber of Commerce, local manufacturers and health care companies and providers are joining forces to raise high school students’ awareness about careers and opportunities in high-demand manufacturing and health care fields. Dubbed “Rockin’ MATC Careers: Heavy Metal and Health Rocks,” the event will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at MATC’s Oak Creek Campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave.

Bradley Tech, Cudahy, Franklin, Reagan, St. Anthony, South Division and South Milwaukee high schools; as well as Milwaukee Job Corps, will send approximately 300 students to tour classrooms and labs in the Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing (ECAM) Center and in the A Building. Students will meet MATC faculty and talk with manufacturers and health care representatives. Some hands-on experiences will include working with a virtual welding machine, computer numerical control (CNC) manufacturing equipment, 3D modeling and surgical technology displays.

Students will explore MATC programs including welding, machine tool, computer numerical control, tool and die, sustainable operations, medical coding, nursing, medical assistant, funeral services and dietetic technology, as well as MATC’s Makers Space.

Participating companies and institutions include Caterpillar, Inc., German American Chambers of Commerce of the Midwest; Krones, Inc.; Master Lock Company, LLC; Nucor Cold Finish; Pindel Global Precision; Aurora Health Care; Ascension; Azura Memory Care; Bell Ambulance; Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin; and Popcare Immediate Care Clinic.

In addition, students from Cudahy High School will tour IKEA; South Milwaukee High School students will visit Krones, Inc.; and South Division High School students will tour Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital-Franklin Campus; as part of the experience.
