MATC Fire Service Training
As fire technology becomes more complex, the responsibilities and challenges a firefighter assumes are increasingly demanding. Well-trained and educated firefighters are sought by both public and private entities.
This two-year associate degree program prepares you for employment in the fire service and for fire-related duties within private industry.
The program also instructs current firefighters and officers on changes within the fire service. Students will have the opportunity to obtain three Wisconsin fire certifications.
MATC offers working professionals an array of State of Wisconsin Fire Certification courses. These courses are designed for both students sponsored by a fire department and non-sponsored students.
Introduces students to basic firefighting skills and procedures and prepares students for State of Wisconsin Firefighter Level 1 certification exam.
Builds on Fire Fighter Level 1 skills with structural firefighting, vehicle extrication and natural gas fire emergencies. Students learn communications, incident reporting and the Incident Management System. Students are put in command roles and coordinate on-scene operations. Prepares students for Fire Fighter Level II State of Wisconsin certification.
Learn how to drive and operate pumping apparatus and how to use water in fire protection including: hydraulics theory, applications, water distribution systems, fire service pumps, hoses, nozzles, sprinkler systems, stand pipes and foam. Prepares students for Driver/Operator-Pumper certification with the State of Wisconsin.
Learn how to drive and operate aerial fire apparatus. Prepares students for Driver/Operator-Aerial certification with the State of Wisconsin.
Comprehensive course to prepare fire and rescue personnel as instructors. Mandatory for anyone wishing to become a Wisconsin State Certified Fire Instructor.
Builds on Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I; part of comprehensive course to prepare fire and rescue personnel as instructors.
Teaches history and philosophy of fire prevention, organization and operation of a fire prevention bureau, use of fire codes, and identification and correction of fire hazards. Prepares students for Fire Inspector I certification with the State of Wisconsin.
Prepares students for Fire Officer I certification with the State of Wisconsin.
Prepares students for Fire Officer II certification with the State of Wisconsin.
Learn how to protect health and promote safety during a hazardous materials incident, how to recognize and identify hazardous materials, prevent and minimize exposure to hazardous materials operations.
Two-day course examines the role of safety officers at emergency responses, specifically within an Incident Command System (ICS).
Firefighters can observe fire behavior and the signs that lead to the flashover phenomenon in a controlled setting. Only available to students certified as firefighters and employed with a fire suppression agency.
