MATC Held Spring Commencement May 15

Milwaukee Area Technical College held its spring commencement  May 15 at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena,. Nearly 1,600 students graduated from associate degree, technical diploma, apprentice and adult high school programs.

Patrick Torhorst, chief information officer for Quest CE, a Milwaukee-based market leader in compliance technology, was the keynote speaker. Quest CE has been named to the Inc. 500/5000 list of fastest growing privately held companies in America for the past five consecutive years. Torhorst graduated from MATC in 2003 with an associate degree in eCommerce and web administration. He later earned a bachelor's degree in management information systems from Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is a member of MATC's eBusiness Advisory Committee.

Torhorst also received MATC's Distinguished Alumnus Award at the ceremony. The award is given for professional and personal achievement, community service and leadership.

Dr. Vicki J. Martin, MATC president, officially conferred the degrees; and Melanie Holmes, chairperson of the MATC District Board, addressed the assembly.

Pauline Lee Rosenblatt, who graduated with an associate degree in accounting, presented the student speech. Rosenblatt also received the Outstanding Associate Degree Graduate Award. Divina M. Graika, who received a bilingual office assistant technical diploma,  received the Outstanding Technical Diploma Graduate Award. Christopher Colburn received the Outstanding Adult High School Graduate Award. Jean Anderson, a graduate of the administrative professional (accelerated) associate degree program, won the President's Award.
