Changes Coming Monday in S Building in Advance of Next Construction Step

Two changes will take place beginning Monday, December 12, in advance of the next major step in the construction project:

  • CareerHub will be located in S110, the Admissions Center
  • State Street Coffee Shop will be temporarily closed; the Campus Cafe on the third floor remains open

S Building Main Entrance to Close Temporarily; Building Remains Open

Effective Monday, December 19, the main entrance to the Student Center (S Building), on the Downtown Milwaukee Campus, 700 West State Street, will be closed until late January 2023 due to the ongoing construction in the building.

Services and offices currently located in the S Building will remain open.

Students, employees and visitors are encouraged to enter through the Main (M) Building, Entrance 4 across the mall from the S Building. This entrance is fully accessible and signs will direct you to the S Building.

A new temporary entrance will be available on West State Street, adjacent to the State Street parking lot, and directly across from the Police Administration Building. The temporary entrance will be open Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. This entrance is not ADA accessible.

  • To move between the first, second and third floors in the S Building, use the North rear elevator and rear stairwell just outside of the Admissions office; arrows will be posted to provide guidance.

Extensive signage will help direct you to entrances.

There is also a S Building closure map available here (pdf)

Construction Impacts Evacuation Routes

The renovation project also impacts evacuation routes in the S Building as follows:

Alternate evacuation routes on the second floor include:

  • Emergency Exit 1, next to S222
  • Bridge to Main Building

Alternate evacuation routes on the third floor include:

  • Emergency Exit 1 in the back of the cafeteria on the third floor
  • Bridge to Main Building

Keep in mind that some S Building offices may have emergency exit options that generally are not accessible to the public. As always, elevators are not recommended for evacuation during emergency situations. Please contact Public Safety, 414-297-6588, if you need assistance identifying alternate evacuation routes.
