What is the MATC Banking and Financial Services associate degree?
Students in the Banking and Financial Services associate degree program learn accounting and financial principles for employment areas including banks, credit unions, insurance and consumer finance companies, finance departments and government offices. Graduates find employment in a wide variety of businesses. The program is also useful for those seeking a job change or advancement. Core skills include effective communications, critical thinking, utilizing technology, and the ability to apply management knowledge in decision-making situations.

How do I prepare for admission to the Banking and Financial Services program?
The following are required for admission to the program:

- A high school diploma or GED
- Demonstration of proficiency in basic skills through a course placement assessment

Will MATC accept credits from other colleges for this program?

Yes. Credits will be evaluated and accepted against program

Will my credits transfer to four-year colleges and universities?
Many colleges will accept credits from this program. The specific
courses are determined by the accepting four-year college. MATC has
articulation agreements with many local colleges and universities.

How qualified are the teachers?
All of the instructors combine actual business experience with an advanced academic degree. This combination brings hands-on experience and theory together in the Banking and Financial Services learning environment.

What type of jobs can I get with this degree?
Due to the growth in service occupations, many opportunities exist for positions in banking and finance. Typical positions available to graduates of the program include customer service representative, personal banker, loan specialist, financial analyst and trust operations specialist.

Where are the classes offered?
MATC offers Banking and Financial Services degree classes at the Downtown Milwaukee and West Allis campuses.


How are the classes offered?

You can take classes during the day, evenings or online.

How many weeks are the classes? The classes are 16 weeks in length.

Where can I find a current or next semester course schedule?

Course schedules are available online and in printed form. The current schedule is available online at INFOnline at http://infonline.matc.edu  as well as in pdf form here. Printed schedules are available at all MATC campuses and Milwaukee public libraries.

How and when can I purchase books?

Each campus’ bookstore stocks books and supplies for classes held at that particular campus. You can also order your books online through the MATC Bookstore . Before you buy textbooks, note your course identification code. Every class has a letter and number identification. For example, the three-credit course titled Introduction to Money, Banking and Financial Markets is identified as BADM-120. These codes are listed on your personal class schedule, on INFOnline and in the printed class schedules. You will need these codes to buy textbooks.

What types of financial aid are available?
Financial aid consists of grants, scholarships, loans and work study.

Grants and scholarships are donated through the generosity of businesses, corporations and individuals, and are not repaid. For most grants and scholarships, students must be enrolled in an associate degree or technical diploma program and maintain a good grade-point average.

Student loans need to be repaid with interest. Students are counseled by MATC Financial Aid staff about loan guidelines and repayments.

How do I apply for financial aid?
See the
Financial Aid section of matc.edu or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid site at www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is best to apply as early as possible for financial aid. MATC's federal school code for processing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is 003866.
