Overview — Prepare for entry-level positions in the accounting field by developing competence in financial, managerial, tax and payroll accounting.

Your success in the program will be enhanced by your abilities to organize complex data and to be detail oriented in your work.

Students completing ACCTG-130 Computerized Accounting are prepared to take the QuickBooks Certification Exam from Intuit; students completing ACCTG-122 Accounting Software Applications are prepared to take the MS Office Excel Specialist Certification Exam.


Online Option — This program may be taken on campus or entirely online; on-campus testing may be required.

Career Pathway — You can earn the Accounting Bookkeeper Trainee certificate on your way to completing this program. After earning this technical diploma, the credits can be applied toward completing the Accounting associate degree. Contact an MATC advisor for information.

Career Outlook — Qualified accounting applicants continue to be in demand. Employment opportunities exist in banking, business and industry, financial companies, government and nonprofit organizations.

Program Learning Outcomes — Employers will expect program graduates to:


  • Process financial transactions throughout the accounting cycle
  • Analyze financial and business information to support planning and decision-making
  • Perform payroll, individual tax and organizational tax preparation, reporting, and analysis tasks
  • Perform cost accounting preparation, reporting, and analysis tasks

Admission Requirements — The following are required for admission to the program:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Demonstration of proficiency in basic skills through a course placement test
