MATC Promise for New High School Graduates


By offering free tuition for eligible students, the MATC Promise for New High School Graduates is unlocking opportunity, making college a reality for students who never thought it was possible.

Class of 2020
The MATC Promise means free tuition for eligible students.

For eligible Class of 2020 graduates, the MATC Promise will pay the tuition and program course fees for up to 75 credits, after federal and state financial grant aid has been applied. The cost of books, program fees and equipment are not covered by the Promise program. 

Get connected to an in-demand career in as little as one to two years – or start a four-year degree.

Eligible students can continue on to a four-year degree through:

  • Promise partnership with Lakeland University
  • Bucky's Tuition Promise at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Guaranteed admission agreements with Marquette University, UW-Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside
  • Total of 35+ four-year partner colleges and universities

Eligible students:

  • Are eligible for federal Pell grants (your FAFSA will determine this)
  • Earn a 2.0 GPA or higher in the first semester of your senior year
  • Earn a composite ACT score of 16 or above by June 26, 2020 – students who earn a 15 can be eligible by completing a "summer bridge" program
  • Graduate from a high school in the MATC district or live in the MATC district
  • Submit final high school transcript with graduation date by June 26, 2020
  • Enroll in at least 12 credits at MATC in Fall 2020 (special exceptions may be provided)


To apply and participate, you must:

  • Complete the Promise interest application by February 7, 2020 
  • Apply for MATC admission by February 7, 2020 at matc.edu/apply 
    Students can defer the $30 application fee by using promo code: HS2020
    Apply as early as August 1, 2019
  • Complete a 2020-21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) by February 7, 2020. (MATC’s federal school code is 003866). The 2020-21 FAFSA becomes available on October 1, 2019
  • Be eligible for federal Pell grants (your FAFSA will determine this)

To start in Summer 2020, you must also:

  • Complete a 2019-20 FAFSA by February 7, 2020 (in addition to the 2020-21 FAFSA) if you wish to take courses in Summer 2020
  • Earn a composite ACT score of 16 or higher by March 7, 2020
  • Submit transcript by March 7, 2020 (final transcript must be submitted in summer)

The MATC Promise for Adults

What is the MATC Promise for Adults?

  • The MATC Promise for Adults provides eligible students up to 75 credits of free tuition – after other scholarships and grants are applied – to complete an in-demand associate degree. 
  • The Promise also provides support to help students stay on track to graduate and connect to a career.

 

Eligible students:

  • Are 24 years or older as of December 31, 2019 and live in the MATC district
  • Have an annual family income of $56,000 or less (based on federal student aid application)
  • Have earned at least six college credits but have not earned an associate or bachelor’s degree
  • Have been out of college for at least two years
  • Enroll in at least six college-level credits by our financial aid census date toward an associate degree program linked to a top 50 in-demand career (http://www.matc.edu/promise/eligible_degrees.cfm)

How do I stay in the program?

  • Enroll in at least six credits each fall and spring semester
  • Earn at least a 2.0 semester GPA and complete 67% of credits attempted in the semester
