MATC Celebrates ECAM at Open Houses

Milwaukee Area Technical College celebrated its Center for Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing (ECAM) at Open Houses held on October 22, 2008. ECAM is located at MATC's Oak Creek campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave.

Industry partners and civic officials joined MATC staff to learn about the multitude of educational and training opportunities available in the $9 million, 34,000-square-foot facility. Opened in late 2007 and billed as "the edge of the future," ECAM hosts six learning laboratories in these specialty areas: advanced manufacturing, manufacturing welding, advanced software, energy solutions, HVAC digital controls and HVAC computers.

Ron Danowski
Ron Danowski, administrator of the State of Wisconsin's Division of Employment and Training, remarked, "ECAM combines two pieces that define Wisconsin's economy – workforce training and energy conservation."

Dorothy Walker, associate Technology and Applied Sciences dean, leads a group on an ECAM tour.

"Since opening last year, we have served more than 2,000 students and clients in this facility," said John Stilp, MATC Oak Creek Campus vice president. "ECAM allows us to provide many new kinds of education."

Ron Danowski, administrator of the State of Wisconsin's Division of Employment and Training, visited ECAM and said, "ECAM combines two pieces that define Wisconsin's economy – workforce training and energy conservation. This facility is a good investment in the community, industry and people. Through initiatives like ECAM, we are ensuring a successful climate with successful businesses and workers who are second to none."

Several civic officials were on hand at the Open Houses, including Oak Creek Mayor Dick Bolender, who remarked, "We are glad to have an MATC campus in Oak Creek and we are so proud of what MATC does. What we are able to teach in ECAM may help solve many of our energy problems."

Customized training and instruction is made possible by MATC instructors who work closely with employers to meet the needs of their employees.

New courses in sustainable facilities operations will launch in early 2009 and will provide practical applications of energy-saving concepts.
