MATC Hosted Baking Demonstration and Book Signing With Renowned Pastry Chef Jacquy Pfeiffer

Jacquy Pfeiffer, world renowned pastry chef and co-founder and academic dean for student affairs at The French Pastry School in Chicago, presented a baking demonstration and tasting to a crowd of about 200 MATC students, instructors, staff, members of the culinary arts and baking community and the public Dec. 5. He also signed copies of his new book at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus. The events began with a demonstration of Pfeiffer making macarons in the T Building Auditorium. After that, he autographed copies of his new book, The Art of French Pastry, in MATC’s 6th Street Café.

Pfeiffer’s book, co-authored with Martha Rose Shulman, was released on Dec. 3. 

Pfeiffer has won many awards and is well known in the field. Some highlights include induction into the Pastry Hall of Fame by Dessert Professional magazine in 2011 and into the Chicago Culinary Museum’s Chefs Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2009, he was featured in the “Kings of Pastry” documentary directed by D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus. The film follows Pfeiffer as he returns to France, where he apprenticed, to compete against 15 of France’s leading pastry chefs in a three-day baking competition, which included a range of activities such as making chocolates and six-foot sugar sculptures.
