MATC Recognized by Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence for Second Straight Year

MILWAUKEE (Nov. 12, 2012) – For the second consecutive year, Milwaukee Area Technical College has received a 2012 Wisconsin Forward Award from the Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence.

Other honorees included: 
  • Black River Memorial Hospital (Black River Falls)
  • Chippewa Valley Technical College (Eau Claire)
  • Goodwill of Southeastern Wisconsin - Retail Services (Milwaukee)
  • iLead Charter School (Mauston)
  • Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar, Inc. (Menomonie)
  • Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital (Prairie du Sac)

Organizations will be acknowledged at an event in Madison Dec. 5. Recipients were recognized for efforts in developing and refining processes tied to good results in areas such as student learning, workforce development, leadership, financial sustainability and customer focus.

MATC will be recognized at the Proficiency level, which is indicative of making significant progress in successful implementation of quality management practices as defined by the program criteria. Applications scoring at this level demonstrate systematic approaches to the primary purposes of most items in the criteria and show early improvement trends resulting from their approaches.

“MATC is committed to the quality improvement process and the Wisconsin Forward Award signifies our achievement,” said MATC President Dr. Michael L. Burke. “Having the appropriate systems in place helps the college fulfill its mission of enriching, empowering and transforming lives in our community. I appreciate the work of Dr. Evonne Carter, Vice President of our Oak Creek Campus, for her unwavering dedication to moving MATC in the right direction.”

Wisconsin Forward Award, Inc. was created in 1997 by the Governor’s Council on Workforce Investment to advance the competitive position and world-class status of Wisconsin organizations in the international marketplace, and to enhance learning, continuous improvement and enterprise performance. The award promotes excellence in organizational management, recognizes the achievements and results of Wisconsin organizations implementing performance excellence systems, and publicizes successful performance excellence management strategies. It is modeled after the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program.
