Winners of MATC's Gingerbread House Competition Announced

Students in Milwaukee Area Technical College's baking and pastry arts associate degree program and the baking production diploma program built nearly 50 gingerbread houses for a competition and display held at the Milwaukee Public Market in early December. Industry professionals judged the houses for design and quality and visitors were invited to vote for the “people’s choice” scholarship winner.

Winners were announced at a Dec. 11 ceremony. Ian Tews took first place and the "people's choice" award for his entry which was built to look like a treehouse. Tyler Dadtka's Eiffel Tower entry took second place. Maria Franco's pretzel house won third place.

Proceeds from silent auctions for each house will be used to offer student scholarships to the baking programs through the MATC Foundation, Inc. The contest and auction were sponsored by the Wisconsin Bakers Association, the Milwaukee Public Market and the American Institute of Wine and Food.
