WTMJ TV-4’s ‘Positively Milwaukee’ Features MATC’s Pre-College Education IBEST-RISE Program
MILWAUKEE (Aug. 4, 2011) - The MATC Pre-College Division’s IBEST-RISE (Integrated Basic Educational Skills Training-Regional Industry Skills Education) program was the subject of a “Positively Milwaukee” feature on WTMJ-TV 4 Aug. 3. IBEST-RISE integrates occupational training with academics in a team-taught environment.
This story features interviews with students, Pre-College Education/Culinary Arts Instructor Paul Carrier and Basic Skills Instructor Marqulyn McKinney. Students in the program learn about cooking while enhancing their math, reading and writing skills.
The program is designed to help students who receive federal aid prepare for jobs and enter MATC’s college-level programs. Similar courses are being offered in other occupational areas such as automotive technology, computer-aided design, nursing assistant, office technology and green technology (environmental health and water quality).
