MATC Students Earn
National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chicago/Midwest Chapter
College Student Production Award Nominations

MILWAUKEE (September 30, 2011) - Six programs produced by Milwaukee Area Technical College students have been nominated for College Student Production Awards by the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This is the highest number of nominations in MATC history. The programs, all of which aired on MPTV, have been recognized for their outstanding production and content construction.

“Everyone associated with MATC’s School of Media and Creative Arts is extremely proud of the work submitted by our students,” said Kevin F. Pulz, instructional chair of the program. “The student work from this region, which includes Northwestern, DePaul, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee among other institutions, is always very competitive and to have the most nominations in MATC history is impressive.”

The winners will be announced Sunday, November 6, at the 53rd Midwest Emmy Awards Ceremony in Chicago. 

The nominees include:

Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs Production: MATC'S Fire Protection Technician Program (Nathaniel Schardin, Producer/Director; Phil Kraus, Field Production)

Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs Production: Save the Arts Animated Shorts (Jasmine Winters, Producer/Editor; Spencer Legan, Producer/Animator; James Frame, Desere Jones, Cassie Maldonado, Katy McCool, Cole Norton, Roberto Rivera Padro, Evan Thompson, John Alvarez-Wallesverd, and Micah Zellinger, Animators)

Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs Production: Play for Change: One Love (Antonio Cole, Jeff Lahti, Producers; Jacob Fatke, Post Production)

Long Form Production: Perseverance: Climbing the Flatland (Nathaniel Schardin, Producer/Director, Jacob Fatke, Phil Kraus, and Antonio Cole, Field Production)

Long Form Production: Our Clear Responsibility (Phil Kraus, Producer/Director; Nathaniel Schardin, Jacob Fatke, Antonio Cole, and Andrew Ilk, Field Production)

Long Form Production: Lightfall (Andrew Ilk, Producer)

Additionally, segments from “Panthervision,” a newscast produced in collaboration with students from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and recorded at Milwaukee Public Television studios, were nominated in the newscast and news feature categories.
