MATC’s Stefania Beaufrand Named Coca-Cola New Century Scholar
MILWAUKEE (March 9, 2011) – Milwaukee Area Technical College student Stefania Beaufrand has been named a Coca-Cola New Century Scholar and will be recognized at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Convention April 11 in New Orleans.
A music occupations major, Beaufrand has a 3.96 grade point average and is the owner of two small businesses. She plans to transfer to a four-year institution after receiving an associate degree from MATC. Beaufrand earned the highest All-USA Academic Team application score among all applicants from Wisconsin and will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
“This is a tremendous honor for Stefania and we are extremely proud of her,” said MATC President Dr. Michael L. Burke. “It is especially impressive since she held a full-time job and came to college after a lengthy hiatus.”
Beaufrand enrolled after being out of school for nearly a decade. She noted that the affordability of a two-year college education and the “partnership” between faculty and students to build a true community were two attributes that attracted her to MATC.
The Milwaukee resident also has been involved in a number of community events, including the Milwaukee Fair Trade Coalition Market Bazaar and the Greater Milwaukee CROP Hunger Walk.
