Printing Tips for Students in MATC Libraries and Academic Support Centers

Do not print documents and emails unless it is necessary.

Select “Print Preview” before printing.

Proofread before printing.
When applicable, print documents on two-sides or scale the document by changing the page margins, or shrink the contents to print on fewer pages.

Only print the pages you need. When printing, locate the pages you need and enter them in the printing options instead of printing the entire document.

Complete documents on your computer and email them to your instructor, classmates, yourself.

Blackboard (Bb) and Web Pages
• When printing web pages, look for an option to “view printer-friendly” or “Print this page.” Many websites including newspapers and magazines have an optional page to view the article or webpage without all of the images and advertisements. Using this method prints only the necessary pages and uses less ink.

• When using Bb, open and print documents from their native application. After clicking on the link in Bb, click “Save” to download the file then click “Open.”

• Use your mouse to copy/paste the text you want to print into a word processing document. This way you can fit more on one page and print only the pages you need.

When using Microsoft PowerPoint, select “Print Handout” printing multiple slides per page or “Outline.” Don’t print just the slides.

When using Microsoft Excel, instead of printing full spreadsheets or the entire active spreadsheet, select the areas (or cells) that you want to print and choose "Print Selection.”

When using Adobe in the browser use the print command from the Adobe plug in, not the print from the file menu.

Don’t log out or exit your document until you have a good print.

Check the Pharos print queue to see how number of pages before releasing the document to the printer.
Remember to hit EXIT on the Pharos screen after selecting all your print jobs, so the next person in line can’t use your funds for their job.

Save your free print allowance for academic work.
