Jim Benedum Teaches Students to Help Others

MATC accounting instructor Jim Benedum teaches his students about much more than balancing books and working with numbers. By setting a positive example through his own actions and offering quotations from wise sages, he inspires students to live life fully and help other people. He has practiced what he teaches for a quarter century as a volunteer income tax preparer.

Preserving History and Tradition
Reggie Finlayson Spins Hypnotic Stories

Hundreds of Milwaukee-area children have sat at Reggie Finlayson's feet over the years, watching the man in the colorful flowing robes use words, gestures, facial expressions and African musical instruments to convey African history. Finlayson is a modern-day "griot" – practitioner of an oral storytelling tradition dating back to 13th-century West Africa.

Susan Heitman an Inspiration for Students

Health Occupations Instructor Susan Heitman keeps her skills fresh by continuing to practice as an occupational therapist, and is a bundle of energy known for her constant and contagious smile. A familiar face at MATC's Downtown Milwaukee Campus, she teaches a full schedule while also serving on faculty committees and working occasionally as an occupational therapist. What keeps her going is a burning passion to help others learn.
