Overview — Earn your associate degree in as few as 16 months and go to class one evening each week, year-round. You'll prepare for a challenging, high-impact career in a fast-paced business environment. Begin with core courses in office technologies. You'll advance to information management, basic office accounting and business communication.
Career Outlook — Business, industry and government are all highly information-oriented office environments. Using a variety of computer applications software, today’s administrative assistants create, edit and produce a variety of documents. Job titles associated with positions of this type include administrative assistant, administrative secretary, administrative support, information manager and information specialist. Graduate of this program may be able to perform in supervisory roles with relevant experience.
Program Learning Outcomes — As a graduate of this program, employers will expect you to:
- Apply effective problem-solving techniques
- Demonstrate administrative and organizational skills, an ability to use reference manuals, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work as a team member
- Present a professional attitude, appearance and behavior
- Apply business math concepts and demonstrate a basic knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures
- Demonstrate excellent keyboarding skills
- Demonstrate machine transcription skills
- Demonstrate excellent proofreading skills
- Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of Adobe Suite including Dreamweaver
- Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of hardware and software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Demonstrate proficiency in formatting and producing business documents
- Demonstrate proficiency in spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy
- Perform Internet research
- Use manual and electronic filing methods as well as information management procedures
Preparation for Admission — The following are required for admission to the program:
- A high school diploma or GED
- Demonstration of proficiency in basic skills through a course placement assessment
- Two years of work experience (full-time or part-time)
