How are students assigned advisors?

If you're enrolled in a degree or diploma program you will be assigned a faculty advisor by mid-term of your first semester.  Thereafter, the advisor's name and contact information will appear on your Program Plan.

Students who do not have an assigned advisor, or who can't locate their advisor, should contact the academic division office for their program.  See division office contact information for phone numbers and email addresses.

Faculty advisors are full time instructors from your program.  They can help you:

  • develop and implement a plan to reach your educational and professional goals
  • provide guidance, support and information about campus resources so that you can make the best possible academic and career decisions
  • understand degree requirements, course sequencing and prerequisites
  • select courses

Every semester, MATC schedules a priority registration period for continuing students. Before and during priority registration, faculty members assist students with planning and course scheduling for the following semester.  Since advisors also teach, they may only be available during posted office hours; however, they may be able to make other arrangements when necessary.  Be sure to review your Program Plan with your advisor to make sure that you are on the right track for a successful experience at MATC.
