MATC to Host Oct. 1 Breakfast to Kick Off of Milwaukee Boys and Men of Color Week

Sept. 26, 2018

Milwaukee Area Technical College will host the kickoff event for Milwaukee Boys and Men of Color (BMOC) Week with a breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus. The theme of the week is “Be the Hero of Your Story.” Breakfast speakers, including Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and MPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Keith Posley, will highlight the role of education in building a successful life and empowering boys and men of color. The breakfast will be held in Room 605 in the Main Building, 1015 N. 6th St.

Two sponsors of the event – Milwaukee Public Schools and MATC – play critical roles in helping boys and men of color to succeed. MPS and MATC respectively have the largest number of boys and men of color enrolled in their institutions in the state. MPS, MATC and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as creators the of M3 (M-cubed) initiative, work together to transform the future of Milwaukee through education.

Speakers at the breakfast will discuss past, present and future efforts and initiatives by Milwaukee organizations to advance outcomes for boys and men of color. The breakfast is free, but registration is encouraged. Visit https://www.eventbrite.com/o/bmoc-17868111328.

BMOC Week events dealing with diversity, inclusion, mindfulness, mentoring, fatherhood and expression through art will be held throughout Milwaukee Monday-Saturday, Oct. 1-6.

The week’s events are co-sponsored by MATC, MATC Men of Color, the City of Milwaukee, MPS Black & Latino Male Achievement, the Milwaukee County Office of African American Affairs and United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County.
