MATC Celebrates Winter Commencement

Milwaukee Area Technical College held its winter commencement Friday, Dec. 12 , at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave. Nearly 800 students will graduate from associate degree, technical diploma, apprentice and adult high school programs this semester.
Kimberley Motley, an attorney who has worked in Afghanistan since 2008, served as the keynote speaker. Motley is the first Westerner to litigate cases in Afghanistan’s criminal courts. She focuses on criminal, commercial, contract, civil and employment matters, with a special emphasis on human rights cases. Motley graduated from MATC in 1997 with a paralegal associate in applied science degree. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a juris doctor degree from Marquette University.
Dr. Vicki J. Martin, MATC president, conferred the degrees; and Melanie Holmes, chairperson of the MATC District Board, addressed the assembly.
Ernesto Gonzalez II, who will graduate with an associate degree from the criminal justice/law enforcement program, presented the student speech. Gonzalez received the Outstanding Associate Degree Graduate Award. Adam Joseph Anderson, who will receive a computer numerical control (CNC) machine operator programmer diploma, received the Outstanding Technical Diploma Graduate Award. Ashley Beckner was presented the Outstanding Adult High School Graduate Award.
