Nontraditional Occupations Can Be Your Future

Nontraditional Occupations are careers that currently employ 25% or less of one gender. For women, NTO careers offer higher wages than many occupations dominated by females. Engineers, architects, police officers, firefighters, electrical technicians, electronic technologists and construction trades are examples of high-wage female NTO careers. These careers are expected to show rapid growth during the next decade.

For men, NTO careers in the health sciences are often high-wage, fast-growth careers. Other male NTO career areas include service areas such as travel agent, administrative assistant, barber/cosmetology and child care.

MATC has nearly 60 associate degree, technical diploma and apprentice programs classified as nontraditional for women. The college has 30 nontraditional programs for men.

If you are interested in an NTO program, MATC offers support services designed to assist you from enrollment to graduation. The NTO staff will help you:

  • Identify your short- and long-term goals
  • Target specific NTO careers
  • Enroll in a high-paying, in-demand NTO program
  • Improve your math, reading or other academic skills, if necessary, through MATC School of Pre-College Education classes
  • Access all support areas of the college, including financial aid, child care, tutoring, academic support centers, employment development and more

 

2017 Summer Camp Programs

Girls Who Bot, Build & Code Robotics Summer Camp

MATC’s Girls Who Bot, Build and Code Robotics Summer Camp is designed specifically for high school girls. This camp will be a fun, hands-on, five-day experience in the state-of-the-art labs on the Downtown Milwaukee Campus. Classes will be taught by MATC instructors.

  • When: Monday, June 12 – Friday, June 19, 2017, 9 a.m. to noon
  • Where: Downtown Milwaukee Campus, 700 West State Street
  • Eligibility: High school students, ages 16 and up
  • Required documents: Complete and submit the permission and registration form by June 7
