Guidelines for Honors Credit
The purpose for the Honors Contract
is to specify the requirements of an independent study project engaged by the Honors student under the guidance of the instructor of the course.
The project may be assigned in addition to, or in lieu of, the requirements of the non-honors students in the course.
The MATC Honors Program recommends that the Honors project offer challenging, experiential tasks, which may include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Research: library or field
- Oral and/or written communication
- Critical thinking
The student is expected to do a substantial amount of writing such as a series of analytical essays, or a research paper, carefully and thoroughly evaluated by the instructor.
The Honors Coordinator reviews and approves all Honors Contracts.
A copy of the contract is given to the student, the instructor, and the Honors Coordinator.
Upon completion of the project, a copy of the project, along with an evaluation by the instructor (see contract), must be forwarded to the Honors Coordinator for final processing and approval.
