Civil Engineering Technology is an associate degree program that prepares you to assist civil engineers in construction projects such as highways, bridges, buildings, water systems and land development. Civil engineering technicians are needed in all phases of project development, from initial surveying and mapping to solving technical problems that occur during the project. Employers include municipal engineering departments, civil engineering consulting firms, structural design firms, land surveying companies, highway departments, construction companies and public utilities. Specific elective surveying courses provide you with an option for a career in land surveying. Core skills include the ability to work as part of a team, one year of high school algebra, and the ability to find creative solutions to technical problems.
