Accelerated Business Management

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Accelerated Business Management associate degree?
Accelerated Business Management prepares you for a career as an assistant manager or assistant operations manager. The training is designed to give you a broad background of business knowledge. Graduates find employment in a wide cross-section of businesses. The program is also useful if you are seeking a job change or advancement, or wish to be an entrepreneur. Core skills include effective communications, critical thinking, utilizing technology, and the ability to apply management knowledge in decision-making situations.

How does the Accelerated Business Management program differ from the Forward Management program?

Accelerated Business Management focuses on managing business operations using analytical tools and skills acquired in courses on statistics, finance, accounting and risk management. Managing personnel is also covered, but people management skills are emphasized in the Forward Management program.

Are the requirements and tuition the same as the regular Business Management degree program?

Yes, everything is the same except the format/time schedule for the courses. You will attend one class at a time for eight weeks, from 5:30-8:25 p.m. on Tuesday or Thursday night. When one eight-week class ends, another begins the following week. Tuition and fees are based on credits, so the fees are the same for regular and accelerated courses.

What if I have not attended school in a while?

Students in the Accelerated Business Management program are typically working adults. Most range in age from 25-55, so many have not attended classes in a long time but are committed to furthering their education. MATC’s general education requirements for math, English and computer skills offer excellent preparation for the business courses.

How do I prepare for admission to the Accelerated Business Management Program?

The following are required for admission to the program:
- A high school diploma or GED
- Demonstration of proficiency in basic skills through a course placement assessment

Will MATC accept credits from other colleges for this program?

Yes. Credits will be evaluated and accepted against program requirements where appropriate. For more information, contact an Oak Creek Campus Academic Counselor, 414-571-4599 or 414-570-4458, or Edelmiro Dominguez, Downtown Academic Counselor, at DominguE@matc.edu or (414)-297-8114.

Will my credits transfer to a four-year college?
Many colleges will accept credits from this program. The specific
courses are determined by the accepting four-year college. MATC has
articulation agreements with many local colleges and universities (except UW-Milwaukee).  For updated course transfer information, check the
MATC Credit Transfer and Articulation Agreements page.

How qualified are the teachers?
All of the instructors combine actual business experience with an advanced academic degree. This combination brings hands-on experience and theory together in the Business Management learning environment.

What type of jobs can I get with this degree?
Sample job titles include management trainee/assistant manager, production/operating specialist, front-line supervisor, personal banker, financial manager, account coordinator, team leader and entrepreneur.

When do the classes start?
Each January a cohort group of students begins the program with the first class on the schedule. They meet the same day each week for 23 months to complete the business portion of the degree program.

Where are the classes offered?

Currently, MATC offers the Accelerated Business Management program at the Oak Creek Campus.

Is the Accelerated Business Management program available online?

Because the courses are rigorous due to the eight-week format, they are currently available only in the classroom. All of the required Business Management courses are available to accelerated students in a 15-week schedule format if they prefer.

How many weeks are the classes?

The classes are eight weeks in length.

What is the
Accelerated Business Management application process?
Enter the associate degree program through the
MATC Admissions process.

How do I know what classes to take?

If you are already registered at MATC, you can access your individualized program plan through INFOnline: http://infonline.matc.edu  If you are not a registered student, see the list of required courses at the Business Management - Accelerated program page online.
The best method of ensuring you are selecting the correct courses is to contact your academic advisor. A predetermined schedule for the business classes in the program is available by contacting Judy Reinders,
reinderj@matc.edu

How do I find a current or next semester course schedule
for general education courses?
Course schedules for the general education courses not included in the accelerated schedule are available online and in printed form. The current schedule is available online at INFOnline at
http://infonline.matc.edu  as well as in pdf form here. Printed schedules are available at all MATC campuses and Milwaukee public libraries.

How and when can I purchase books?
Each campus’ bookstore stocks books and supplies for classes held at that particular campus. You can also order your books online through the
MATC Bookstore  website. Before you buy textbooks, note your course identification code. Every class has a letter and number identification. For example, the three-credit Business Organization and Management course is identified as BADM-134. These codes are listed on your personal class schedule, on INFOnline and in the printed class schedules. You will need these codes to buy textbooks.

What types of financial aid are available?
Financial aid consists of grants, scholarships, loans and work study.

See the Financial Aid section of matc.edu for specific information.

Grants and scholarships are donated through the generosity of businesses, corporations and individuals, and are not repaid. For most grants and scholarships, students must be enrolled in an associate degree or technical diploma program and maintain a good grade-point average.

Student loans need to be repaid with interest. Students are counseled by MATC Financial Aid staff about loan guidelines and repayments.

How do I apply for financial aid?
See the
Financial Aid section of matc.edu or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid site at www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is best to apply as early as possible for financial aid. MATC's federal school code for processing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is 003866.

How much do classes cost?

See Tuition and Fees  online or the current printed class schedule for specific information.
