Overview — Enter the broadcasting industry with the skills attained through this two-semester program. 

You will learn the basics of television and video studio production through courses taught in the Milwaukee PBS studios. The coursework presents an introduction to studio-based production, studio lighting, studio camera operation, and general TV engineering principles. This hands-on experience helps prepare you for an entry-level position in a studio environment.


Career Pathway — After earning this technical diploma, your credits can be applied toward completing the Television and Video Production associate degree. Contact an MATC advisor for information.


Career Outlook — Studios for cable, educational or government access channels; smaller-market television stations; educational studios in high school and college facilities; and corporate video studios offer employment opportunities.

Program Learning Outcomes — Employers will expect program graduates to:

  • Be technically and artistically prepared for entry-level employment in the television and video production industry
  • Know the operations of television studio and control room equipment
  • Utilize electronic graphics, animation and computers
  • Have skills in lighting, staging and set construction
  • Integrate digital and high-definition standards in production
  • Demonstrate core abilities (critical thinking, communication, work habits, using technology)

Admission Requirements — The following are required for admission to the program
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstration of proficiency in basic skills through a course placement assessment
