Overview — Learn to use professional equipment and attain the techniques related to composition, lighting and image manipulation required for entry-level employment in the photographic industry.

Students are required to own a Canon or Nikon D-SLR camera with manual exposure controls, adjustable apertures and shutter speeds, and interchangeable lens capabilities in order to complete course requirements.

 

Career Pathway — After earning this technical diploma, your credits can be applied toward completing the Photography associate degree. Contact an MATC advisor for information.

Career Outlook — As the photo industry continues to evolve, new and exciting job opportunities exist in professional-level still and video photography. This one-year program will assist in preparing you for an entry-level position.

Program Learning Outcomes — Employers expect program graduates to possess the following skills:

·         Be technically and artistically prepared for entry-level employment in the photographic industry

·         Demonstrate the core abilities (critical thinking, communication, work habits, using technology)

·         Demonstrate digital photography fundamentals and skills

·         Investigate, communicate and manipulate captured images

 

Preparation for Admission — The following are required for admission to the program:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstration of proficiency in basic skills through a course placement assessment
