    Work Study and Internships
Current MATC students may have opportunities for employment through MATC's Work Study or Cooperative Education/Internships. Through Work Study, qualified program-only students provide assistance to campus divisions and departments. These are paid, limited-hour and limited-term positions that are occasionally available on the college's four campuses. Check for these opportunities through the Financial Aid office or call 414-297-8073.

Cooperative Education/Internships are mandatory or encouraged in some programs/classes. Many internship opportunities are paid, part-time positions. These limited-term work experiences directly relate to the student's field of study. Internships are often arranged through faculty and/or the program's division office. For more information visit the Financial Aid area of the website or call 414-297-7881.

    Resumes and Cover Letters
MATC's SES office is your resource for techniques and tips on resume writing, cover letter writing and more. Here are some general ideas to follow when preparing resumes and cover letters:

    Resumes
Begin by outlining your skills, abilities, work experiences, education, volunteer activities and any other pertinent information about yourself. In general, your resume should contain these elements:

    • Personal contact information at the top
    • Include an "employment objective" - tailor each to each employer
    • New graduates with little work experience should list their education first - starting with the most recent graduation
    • If you have it, give an overview of your work experiences - list skills you have gained, positions/titles you've held, name and location of employer, dates of employment, work responsibilities and achievements
    • List special skills or competencies, especially leadership experiences in volunteer organizations
    • Do not include references on your resume; say "references available upon request"
    • Check and recheck your draft resume for spelling, grammar, awkward phrases, etc.

MATC's SES staff can help students and alumni craft and review their resumes.

    Cover Letters
A cover letter accompanies a resume and introduces you to potential employers. A cover letter needs to:

    • Be brief. A few short paragraphs should be sufficient.
    • Begin with why you are writing
    • Specify the position/type of work you are looking for
    • Explain why you are interested in working for the particular company - convey to the employer your personal ability, interest and compatibility for the job
    • Relate your skills, experience, education and other qualifications
    • Ask for an interview

SES staff can help students and alumni craft and review their cover letters.
