By setting a positive example through his own actions and offering quotations from wise sages, he inspires students to live life fully and help other people. He has practiced what he teaches for a quarter century as a volunteer income tax preparer.

Therapeutic Touch Susan Heitman an Inspiration for Students
Health Occupations Instructor Susan Heitman teaches a full schedule five days a week at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus, serves on several faculty committees and continues to work one Saturday each month as an occupational therapist. What keeps her going? “I draw on my students energy and enthusiasm and try to give something of that back,” she says.

Preserving History and Tradition Reggie Finlayson Spins Hypnotic Stories
Hundreds of Milwaukee-area children have sat at Reggie Finlayson’s feet over the years, watching the man in the colorful flowing robes use words, gestures, facial expressions and African musical instruments to convey African history. Finlayson is a modern-day “griot” – practitioner of an oral storytelling tradition dating back to 13th-century West Africa.

E-mazing Curiosity Jim Schug Takes Computer Studies into New Arenas
Any time computer studies leap forward at MATC, Information Technology Instructor Jim Schug probably led the charge or was in the forefront. Schug has notched a long string of firsts. He founded the Computer Software Department, began teaching classes in Windows 95 within a week of its rollout and was one of the first instructors to offer online classes in the mid ‘90s. Schug and a colleague set up MATC’s first Internet server for online learners. In 2002, he developed the state’s first associate degree program in information security.
