Effective Thursday, November 1, 2012, the use of tobacco and tobacco products will be prohibited on all MATC property. This policy was approved by the MATC District Board on June 26, 2012, and applies to all students, employees and visitors.
“I applaud the move to a tobacco-free environment,” said MATC President Dr. Michael L. Burke. “According to the Centers for Disease Control, there are 443,000 annual deaths related to tobacco. Creating a tobacco-free environment protects the wellness of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. I appreciate the work of the Tobacco-Free Task Force, which included representatives of the Joint Indoor Air Quality Committee, Public Safety, Student Government, Student Life, and other groups, that led to this policy.”
Signage at all four MATC campuses will be installed prior to November 1. Information will be sent to students and employees via email.
