Four More Historically Black Colleges Partner with MATC
MILWAUKEE (April 24, 2008) – Milwaukee Area Technical College is adding four new, esteemed names to its unique roster of transfer agreements with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Delegates from three will attend a signing ceremony on Monday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the district board room, Main Building (M210), 1015 N. 6th St.
The new partners are Jackson State University, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (North Carolina A&T), Rust College and Talladega College. They now will begin accepting MATC credits, allowing students to enter with junior standing.
Signing the agreements with MATC President Darnell E. Cole will be James Maddirala, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Jackson State University, Jackson, Miss.; Lea Williams, interim vice chancellor, North Carolina A&T, N.C.; and Billy Hawkins, president, Talladega College, Talladega, Ala. A formal signing ceremony with a representative of Rust College, Holly Springs, Miss., is planned for a later date.
“We are pleased and honored to be adding these influential institutions to our original group of partners,” said Dr. Cole. “We believe this is an important initiative to further expand transfer options for African-American students who want access to the black college experience.”
MATC also has transfer agreements with Bennett College for Women, Greensboro, N.C.; Lane College, Jackson, Tenn.; Miles College, Birmingham, Ala.; Paine College, Augusta, Ga.; and Texas College, Tyler, Texas. An agreement with Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (Florida A&M), Tallahassee, Fla., is pending.
