MATC Recognizes YouthBuild Program Participants

July 24, 2015

YouthBuild PaCT Program Graduation

Six students who have successfully completed MATC's YouthBuild program were recognized July 23. These were the first students to complete the program that was launched earlier this year after the college received a U.S. Department of Labor grant to fund the program. Spotted Eagle, Journey House, KPH Construction and Habitat for Humanity are program partners.

During the program, students learned construction skills including using hand and power tools, completed a mini house project, obtained certification in OSHA and First Aid and started GED coursework.

"The students who have completed this program have benefited from the instruction and ability to get hands-on experience," said Mona Schroeder-Beers, YouthBuild director for MATC. "They have built a strong foundation for future educational opportunities and career growth."

YouthBuild is a national non-residential, community-based alternative education program that provides classroom instruction and occupational skills training to youth ages 16 to 24 who have been in the juvenile justice system, are aging out of foster care, have dropped out of high school or are otherwise at-risk of failing to reach key educational and career milestones.
