Food Court entertainment will feature local student musicians

September 15, 2014

Mayfair today announced a new partnership with the Milwaukee Area Technical College’s School of Media Creative Arts Music Occupations Program. Weekly scheduled entertainment featuring student and faculty musicians will begin Thursday, September 18, in the Food Court. The ongoing schedule of performances will be available at www.mayfairmall.com.

“Mayfair’s new partnership with MATC is a great addition to the shopping experience by supporting their music students and providing the performance venue for them to demonstrate their talents and entertain our shoppers,” said Stephen Smith, senior general manager of Mayfair.

The MATC School of Media and Creative Arts offers 12 associate degree and several technical diploma programs. Audio Production, Animation, Photography, Graphic Design and Television and Video Production are a few of the exciting programs at MATC, all featuring dynamic and engaging teaching by experienced industry professionals. The Music Occupations program prepares students for careers in music by developing skills as a well-rounded musician within areas of study such as music reading, analysis, composition, ear training, improvisation and performances. “Our students are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to perform live at Mayfair,” said Robbi Heighway, instruction chairperson of the Music program. “This provides such valuable ‘real world experience’ that gives our students a chance to develop and refine professional level skills that will serve them throughout their careers. Expect to hear a diverse repertoire ranging from classical to jazz and other popular styles. Solo artists on piano or guitar, vocalists and small ensembles of various instrumentation will perform. At times, our students might be joined by faculty or alumni. We are really looking forward to showcasing the amazing talent within our program.”
