Free Culinary Camp for High School Students to be Held at MATC's Downtown Milwaukee Campus June 23-27

A free weeklong culinary camp for high school students 16 and older will be held June 23-27 at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus, 700 W. State St. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Classes will be taught by an MATC culinary arts instructor. Students will earn one college credit upon successful completion of the class. The program is co-sponsored by MATC’s Nontraditional Occupations Grant Project and the Wisconsin Restaurant Association.
Students will learn culinary terminology; how to handle food in compliance with Health Department sanitation guidelines and regulations; comparison of mother sauces; use of kitchen tools; and preparation of starches, vegetables, meats and eggs.
Written permission from parents is required, and applicants and their parents must attend a mandatory orientation session from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19. Applications are due Monday, June 16.
