June 30, 2014
Dr. Wilma Bonaparte was appointed vice president for Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Mequon Campus at a meeting of the MATC District Board June 24. Bonaparte is currently dean of MATC’s School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She will begin her duties as vice president at the Mequon Campus full time in August.
Bonaparte has served MATC for 20 years. She was MATC’s district-wide director of bilingual and basic skills programs from 1988-1993. She then took a position as campus vice president/executive campus dean at Bunker Hill Community College-Chelsea Campus in Boston from 1993-1999. Bonaparte returned to MATC in 1999, where she served as associate dean in multiple roles until 2012, working in liberal arts and sciences, college transition, consumer and hospitality, business and health occupations. She concurrently served as MATC’s counseling services manager from 2008-2012. She was promoted to dean of MATC’s School of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2012.
She holds a doctorate of education from the University of Massachusetts-Boston, a certificate in leadership from Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management, a master’s of education from Penn State University and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Puerto Rico.
“I look forward to collaborating with area businesses, schools and members of the community to develop innovative new programs and to continue strengthening the already impressive offerings at MATC’s Mequon Campus,” Bonaparte said. "I am also committed to ensuring student access and success at the Mequon Campus."
Bonaparte replaces Lucia Francis, who retired in January. Al Pinckney, vice president for MATC’s West Allis Campus, assisted with managing the Mequon Campus during the search for Francis’ successor.
