Investigative Journalist and Political Commentator Jeff Johnson was Keynote Speaker at MATC Soul Food Celebration

Jeff Johnson, award-winning investigative journalist, social activist and political commentator, was the keynote speaker March 8 at the 21st Annual Soul Food Celebration, sponsored by Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Black Student Union and Office of Student Life. Part of MATC’s Black History Month celebration, Johnson presented “Social Justice: America’s Moral Imperative.” The program and dinner followed a reception, all held at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Proceeds from the event benefited MATC’s Black Student Union.

Johnson won a National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Salute to Excellence Award in 2008 for his “Life & Death in Darfur, Jeff Johnson Reports” series on BET (Black Entertainment Television LLC). He is a regular commentator on issues related to race, politics, popular culture and socioeconomics for the BlackAmericaWeb.com’s “Tom Joyner Morning Show”; MSNBC’s “Dayside” and “Hardball with Chris Matthews”; CNN’s “Headline News”; Fox News; The Huffington Post; CNN.com; theRoot.com; EbonyJet.com; and Upscale magazine. He landed exclusive interviews with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female head of state.

He is one of 30 young leaders from Europe and North America selected by the British Council to be a part of its Transatlantic 2020 team, which has inaugurated a new international dialogue to reinvigorate traditional alliances and mend transatlantic rifts. Johnson is the author of Everything I’m Not Made Me Everything I Am: Discovering Your Personal Best.
