Clinical Laboratory Technician

Begin a healthcare career as a medical laboratory technician (MLT) or clinical laboratory technician (CLT) in hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices. Opportunities also exist in commercial industries, scientific research and infection control. Students attend classes four to five days each week; the clinical experiences near the program's end are arranged at clinical laboratories. 

Career Outlook: Currently, the job market looks favorable for this level of practitioner. In the laboratory, the MLT and CLT perform analytical procedures under the supervision of a medical technologist or physician.

Students are admitted through a petition process.

A criterion considered in the petition process is verification of student residency. Students selected via the petition process are chosen based on MATC district residency, then Wisconsin nondistrict residency, followed by nonresidents, unless otherwise stated.

Special Admission Requirements: One year high school-level or one semester college-level algebra, biology and chemistry; medical and criminal background documentation in compliance with Wisconsin's Caregiver Law.
