Grainger - Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship
The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship began in 2006 to help technical education students across the country realize their educational goals. The scholarship recognizes outstanding students with a $2,000 scholarship prior to their second year and a customized Westward toolkit upon successful completion of their educational program. In 2008, the MATC Foundation accepted the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship into its scholarship program.
To be eligible, students must be entering their second year at a technical college in which they are studying electronic systems, heating /air conditioning, plumbing, welding, automotive, construction or other industrial trades.
Two outstanding MATC students received scholarships this school year, Alexander "A.J." Hoffman and Peter Linvik.
A.J. Hoffman is currently enrolled in MATC's Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician program. In addition to attending MATC full-time, A.J. works at his father's company, Orly Co., Inc. part-time and at Charter Steel full-time. After graduation he plans to work full-time at his father's business, and eventually take over the company after his father retires. He was very excited to receive this scholarship to "help make ends meet." As for the Westward toolkit, A.J. says, "I can't wait to get my hands on them. These tools will help me to work more efficiently and save me thousands of dollars trying to buy them all."
Peter Linvik graduated from MATC's Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Program in December of 2009, and also earned his diploma in the Power Engineering and Boiler Operator Program. This semester, Peter began studies in MATC's Environmental & Pollution Control Technology program. After graduation, he plans to secure a position as a service technician. After a year or two he would like to go back to MATC to obtain a business degree. It is his ultimate goal to someday own a HVAC business. Peter is grateful to Grainger for the scholarship saying, "receiving this scholarship helps to keep me motivated knowing that someone is giving me a chance for success. I refuse to let them or myself down. I cannot say thank you enough!"
The MATC Foundation is proud to partner with W.W. Grainger, Inc. to offer this valuable scholarship to students enrolled in technical education programs.
