Power Engineering Technical Diploma
Starting January 2008

Two-semester, 16-credit program trains you to manage and repair equipment, maintain facilities, operate and control low- and high-pressure boilers and auxiliary systems in factories, plants and buildings. Job possibilities include building engineer, boiler operator, facilities maintenance mechanic and power engineer. Upon completion, you will be prepared to take the NIULPE (National Institute for Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers) Certification Exam.

Courses taught at ECAM:

POWENG-330, Introduction to Power Engineering (1 credit)
- Covers the basic operation of low-pressure boilers and prepares you to obtain a fifth-class power engineering license.

POWENG-331, Fundamentals of Power Engineering 1 (1 credit)
- Prepares students to pass the National Institute for Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers exam. Topics include steam principles, power plant cycles boiler designs, heat exchange, combined cycle gas turbines boiler emissions and control, burner technology and more.

POWENG-332, Fundamentals of Power Engineering 2 (1 credit)
- Prepares you to take the third-class class power engineering license test. You will learn basic HVAC principles, basics of electricity and boiler operations. Prerequisites: POWENG-330 and POWENG-331.

POWENG-335, Instrumentation and Controls (3 credits)
- Covers a variety of topics related to instrumentation and controls typically used in the power engineering field. Prerequisite: ELECTY-395.
