CNC Swiss Lathe Specialized Turning Certificate Starting August 2008
One-semester, 9-credit sequence trains you to program and operate Swiss-type lathes, which are used to make small, high-precision parts for products such as implantable medical devices. They do the work of two or more machines and are ideal for producing long parts with very straight turns. Setup and operation entails basic machining skills and knowledge of CNC Swiss-type machining centers.
Courses taught at ECAM:
Swiss 1 (3 credits) Teaches the basics of how to set up and run CNC Swiss-style lathes, including how to identify G&M codes. Small-part inspection techniques also are covered, along with safety procedures and nomenclature.
Swiss 2 (3 credits) You will perform more advanced operations and learn how to program a CNC Swiss-style lathe. Parts will be machined from selected programs.
Swiss 3 (3 credits) Advanced-level course teaches you to write and load programs for CNC Swiss-style lathes. You will then machine parts from these programs. Advanced features and operations will be covered, along with setup and cycle reduction time.
