Student Technology Assistance

MATC is pleased to offer access to technology for students who do not have access to required resources for their success. These resources include Chromebooks, laptops, and wireless hot spots (internet access). If you need these resources, please see the sections below.

 

Chromebooks

Students who do not have access to a computer or other device to complete coursework can apply for a free Chromebook.

To be eligible for a chromebook a student must:

  1. Be enrolled for the current semester
  2. Have not already received a chromebook from MATC
  3. Not have access to a computer or other device necessary to complete their coursework

After applying for a Chromebook, students will be contacted via email by a member of the Student Technology Assistance Team regarding their status.

Chromebooks will be shipped directly to the address provided by the student on their Chromebook application. Once a student’s Chromebook ships, they will be sent an email with the tracking information.

Please note: We are unable to ship to PO Box addresses or out of state addresses. Please contact studenttechassistance@matc.edu if this applies to you.

Chromebooks do not need to be returned at the end of the semester - they are yours to keep!

Laptops

A limited number of laptop computers are available for semester-long checkout at both the Downtown Milwaukee and the Oak Creek Campus libraries on a first-come, first-served basis to students not receiving a Chromebook. Laptops can also be checked out by students who need access to software that is not available on their Chromebook in order to complete assigned coursework. Please bring your MATC Student ID, and fill out the Library Equipment Agreement Form prior to arriving at the library for laptop checkout.

Hot Spots

MATC has a limited number of wireless internet hot spots available for semester-long checkout.

Interested students can apply to receive a hot spot here (link)

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled during the current semester and not have reliable internet access.

After applying for a hot spot, students will be contacted via email by a member of the Student Technology Assistance Team regarding their status. If eligible, students will be given instructions regarding pickup.

Hot spots are due at the end of each semester unless they are renewed for the following term — students will receive instructions on renewal and return via email.

  3. What are the eligibility criteria for Chromebooks/hot spots?
    a. Eligible applicants must be registered in MATC classes for the semester that the device will be issued. If the applicant is not registered at the time of application, they will need to reapply once they have registered.
